WELCOME to TIS

Tohoku International School (TIS) is the only international school in Tohoku (the northern part of Japan) offering an individualized and holistic academic program from Kindergarten through Grade 12. With a diverse staff of highly qualified, international educators, our school has been serving the educational needs of Tohoku for nearly 50 years. TIS is sponsored by Nanko Gakuen Corporation since 1988 and governed in conjunction with the TIS Council, an advisory board composed of the Principal and representatives from TIS stakeholders. TIS is accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and by the Japanese Ministry of Education (Gakko Hojin). We are also a fully authorized International Baccalaureate© school which offers both the PYP and DP Programmes. All courses are taught in English and the school offers support for students with limited English, broadening the accessibility of our curriculum. Our approaches to learning are designed around Thinking, Research, Social, Self-Management, and Communication Skills, we embrace 21st century competencies, such as conflict-resolution, ethics, mindfulness, and the acceptance of diverse perspectives.

東北インターナショナルスクール（TIS）は、幼稚科から高等科まで一貫教育を英語で行う東北で唯一のインターナショナルスクールです。TISでは国際基準に基づいた包括的で質の高いカリキュラムを提供しています。世界中から優れた教師陣を揃え、50年近くに渡り東北における国際教育への要望に答えてきました。TISは1988年より学校法人南光学園の傘下にて、校長をはじめとするTIS評議委員会の協力の下に運営されています。TISは、米国西部地域私立学校大学協会（WASC）及び日本の学校法人として、宮城県から各種学校教育法に基づいた教育機関としての正式な認定を受けています。東北で唯一、国際バカロレアのPYPプログラムとDPプログラムを英語で提供し、授業は（日本語クラスを除き）全て英語で行われています。また英語が母国語ではない生徒にもカリキュラムに対応できる力がつくべく手厚いEALサポートを行っています。TISの教育理念は、物事の解決力と心豊かで多様な視点を受け入れられる思考力をもち、探究心と社会性を備え、自己管理力、コミュニケーション能力に優れた、未来を担う生徒を育成する事にあります。
