Tohoku International School provides a superb experiential learning environment for your child to foster the development of their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical skills through an enriching and well-balanced academic program. Operating on a two-year cycle, the curricular program encompasses six broad bands and twelve Units of Study. Through these carefully considered Units of Study, core subjects are intertwined and presented creatively as part of a meaningful framework of learning. Art, Music, PE and Japanese subjects are integrated into the program to enhance learning and the development of important life skills. Information technology skills are integrated into course work throughout the grades.

Our excellent and international teaching staff offer a safe, supportive and caring environment through which all children are given opportunities to learn and grow in a range of meaningful contexts. High levels of academic instruction are essential to our mission. Teachers facilitate a range of learning opportunities that engage and inspire children at all levels. We value differentiation as a necessary and important component of an effective and well-managed classroom.

All students are supported and guided in their efforts to aspire to the values associated to our five STARS that are central to our curriculum. We desire students to become responsible global citizens who are not afraid to take risks. We seek to enable students to develop the skills necessary to be effective communicators.

Students are fostered with a sense of the importance to being a lifelong leaner as they become increasingly knowledgeable. Finally, we promote the development of an open minded attitude as students interact and solve problems together.
