THE 5 STARS
Grade 3-4 hosted a guest speaker from the Sendai city office. We learned all about decisions behind how Sendai was developed in the Edo period. Date Masamune really thought things through! Central Idea: Cities have been developed for similar reasons throughout time. #tohokuinternationalschool #pyp #pypean
In Mr.B's art class, the class of grade 3/4 spent time to explore and celebrate the amazing colors of fall. They first spent time to collect and divide leaves by color, and then worked together in teams to organize the leaves around the base of one of the trees, as you can see in the photos. No spray paint was used for this piece! Its all natural color! #tohokuinternationalschool #pypean #pyp
HSC students took a field trip in Japanese class to the Aoba Castle. The castle was built by lord Date Masamune, in 1600. Students hiked from the base of the castle all the way to the top, while viewing the many defensive mechanisms such as walls, slopes, curves and gates. During the tour, we where granted special permission to view an archaeological dig where people where excavating the ruins of the castle's sakagura (wine cellar). We where able to see some of the foundation stones and shingles and plates which where uncovered on this site. Students also measured the size of some of the stones at the base of the highest wall. We learned that the heaviest stone weighs over 6 tons and was carried from a hill over 3km away. Please ask the HSC students for more stories, and more information about what they have learned!
