THE 5 STARS
After drawing some self portraits, the new Visual Arts team took part in an ice breaker game. The challenge was to create a tower that was higher than 50cm with five bags of Play-Doh. Easy right? As we learned how soft and unstable Play-Doh is, the challenge proved to be much harder than it had seemed in the beginning. Most groups barely made it to 30 cm during the time limit.
Grade 3-4 is exploring communication. Guest speakers Ms. Emi Meguro and Mr. Yasunori Kon came to teach Grade 3-4 students about communicating with people who are blind, or have difficulties seeing. K4-5 students also joined us to take a look at some of the tools Ms. Meguro uses, such as: braille calendars, rulers and protractors, playing cards with braille on them, an abacus, watches that open so you can feel the hands of the clock to tell time, etc. . We learned three important things: 1. To not stand on or place things on the braille blocks seen on sidewalks. 2. To help out a blind person by tapping them on the shoulder, and offering help for instances such as crossing the street by letting them know the light is green. 3. To not be discouraged if you offer help, and the person says "no thank you."
